Caleb's Birthday Celebration

As I've mentioned before, we don't really do birthday parties. Instead, we let the birthday child chose something special to do for their birthday. Noah wanted the Children's Museum and Chick-fil-a. Caleb chose the zoo. So on Caleb's birthday we made a fun day trip down to Columbia, SC to the Riverbanks Zoo. Our friends, the Chambers, were supposed to come with us, but very unfortunately were struck with the dreaded stomach bug. So, the six of us loaded up and headed down. Caleb told me he wanted animal cupcakes for his birthday, so I searched around online until I found some designs I thought I could handle. They came out really cute. I packed a picnic lunch per Caleb's specifications- sandwiches, pasta salad, and cup cakes. He also requested stuffing for our picnic, but I just promised to make him stuffing soon! The weather was absolutely beautiful, especially for February. We had a wonderful day at the zoo. All of the animals were out and though we thought we were going to miss the grizzly bears, they came out just in time for us to see them before we had to leave!

Caleb ended up having a birthday weekend celebration as Grammy and Pop-Pop came to visit on Saturday for his birthday and then Nana and Paw-Paw came to visit on Sunday.

Happy Birthday, Caleb!!

Valentine's Day

So, the last day of February is tomorrow and I am just now getting to blogging about our Valentine's Day festivities. I try to make everyday special around here, but especially holidays. We don't spend a lot of money, but we sure do have a great time together.

I made a special breakfast with heart-shaped cinnamon rolls.

Then we used a salad spinner to make some really neat hearts.

And we had a heart-shaped lunch with heart-shaped sandwiches, strawberries and some chocolate covered pretzels that I made (they were so easy and turned out really cute and yummy!)

And then the boys got to have pizza and cheesy bread for dinner. After the kids were in bed, Jack and I ordered Chinese take-out and got a movie from the Redbox. It was a perfect Valentine's Day date! What a sweet day we had as a family. Thankful for every memory made.

How Is He 6 Already?

Today, my oldest turns 6. How can that be possible? I feel like he was just born. Six sounds so old! And he looks like such a boy now! I can't get over how quickly the time passes. This is why I must cherish and live fully in each and every moment.

Caleb, you are six years old today. I just can't believe how quickly you've grown. Your daddy and I are so very proud to be your parents. You are funny and fun to be around. You are so very smart. You are like a sponge absorbing everything you hear and see. I am so delighted to be your teacher and am daily amazed at all you are able to do already. You are a great reader and writer, but you are also really good at math. But by far your favorite thing to learn and talk about is animals. And you already know so much about them! I love the way you still say "aminals." It makes me feel like you aren't growing up too fast yet. And yet, you talk to me and Daddy like you are an adult. I love the deep conversations we've already had about Jesus, sin, heaven and the cross. Just the other day we were listening to a scripture memory song in the car that spoke about the fruit of the Spirit and you said, "Mommy, I need more self-control cause it's a fruit of the spirit. I let my anger control me and I need to get more self-control." I am so proud of the way you are growing into a boy who loves Jesus and His ways. You are a wonderful brother. Your little brothers want to be just like you and copy everything you do. I have loved watching a friendship blossom and grow between you and Noah. And you are wonderful with Eden. She adores you and you feel very much the same way about her.

Caleb, you are a passionate and strong willed boy. Your daddy and I are praying that God will use these wonderful traits for His glory. That your passion will be for God and that your strong-will will keep you grounded in the truth and convictions of the Word. We love you buddy. No matter what forever and ever. Happy 6th Birthday!

6 Months Old

Well, now that Eden is just a few days away from being 7 months old, I guess I should get around to posting her 6 month update!

Eden, you turned 6 months old on January 12. You've had a busy two months since your four month update in November!
  • You are now rolling both ways- tummy to back and back to tummy. You are getting everywhere! You can efficiently travel all around the room by rolling and scooting. And don't ask me how you spin yourself around the way you do. Daddy and I always think it is funny to see what position you've gotten yourself into when we let you play on the floor.
  • You are growing fast. You weigh 17 lbs 6 oz (75%) and you are 27 inches long (90%). You weigh more and are longer than Josiah was at six months old!! He weighed 17 lbs 3 oz and was 26 1/2 inches long. But don't worry your two biggest brothers outweigh you by a mile! Noah was 20 lbs 14 oz and 27 1/2 inches and Caleb was 21 lbs 13 oz and was the exact same length as you- 27 inches.
  • You went on many travels in the past two months. You went to the beach on St. Simons Island, Georgia for Christmas with Grammy and Pop-Pop and to Virginia for Christmas with Nana and Paw-Paw. We sure did have fun watching you on your first Christmas.

  •   You had another great adventure- the Passion 2012 Conference in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA. You were an ANGEL! You slept so soundly during the loudest worship of 40,000 college students. And then you always woke up during the preaching. Daddy says it is because you wanted to hear the Word!

  •  You have started eating baby food and love it! The only food you haven't loved is peaches. And I think your favorite might be sweet potatoes.

  •  You are sleeping through the night! You have figured out how to put your paci in if you wake up in the middle of the night and now Mommy and Daddy make sure to put about 5 pacis in your crib with you when you sleep! Way to go baby girl!
  • You are teething like crazy- chewing and drooling on everything. It won't be long now until we see some teeth.
  • You are still the sweetest baby girl in the world. We had a few struggles with your feeding in the past month, but thanks to a sweet friend we've gotten that worked out. And even with all of our struggles you were just precious. You are so happy and have a smile for everyone you meet. And your brothers still adore you- remember this when they are teenagers!
  • Mommy and Daddy love you little lady and we are praying God will grab a hold of your heart- that He would grow your sweet disposition into a beautiful young woman for His glory and that you will always love to hear His Word.
